How to get from Coimbatore to Paris: the four options

Applying for a France visa from Coimbatore: you are going to Chennai
There is no France visa application centre in Coimbatore. France operates 14 visa application centres across India — Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and others — and Tamil Nadu applicants go to Chennai, in the Egmore area. VFS has published a relocation notice for the France account, so we confirm the current address the week you travel rather than trusting any published page, including this one.
Biometrics are taken in person, so this is not a trip anyone can make for you. Applicants aged 12 and above must attend; under-twelves are exempt from biometrics though the application is still lodged for them. For a Coimbatore family of four with two teenagers, that is four people, one journey, one appointment window.
What it actually costs a Coimbatore household, none of which appears in any visa fee table:
- A day of leave, sometimes two, for each adult applicant.
- Travel to Chennai and usually a night there — for a family of four this can exceed the ₹42,000–₹48,000 the visa fees themselves come to.
- Nowhere to leave your phone or laptop: electronics are not permitted inside the centre, which is a small problem at home and a real one when you have travelled overnight.
- A second journey if the file is incomplete. This is the outcome the whole exercise is designed to avoid.
So our sequence is deliberate and it is the opposite of the industry norm. The document check happens before the appointment is booked, and the appointment is booked before anybody buys a train ticket. Every page of the file is read against the France-Visas requirement set by someone who does this weekly. Insufficient financial documentation is the most common refusal cause nationally, and it is the one most often fixable a fortnight before an appointment and not at all on the day.

Can I book everything without coming to the office?

How far ahead should a Coimbatore family start planning?
Five to six months. The visa needs about 3 months of that, and the Chennai appointment has to fit around four people's leave rather than one person's calendar. Indian enquiries peak December to February for the April–June season, so hotel choice narrows quickly after that.
